Specialising in ergonomic furniture with sleek lines and modern curves, designer W.H. Gispen’s name became synonymous with steel-framed seating. He founded the Dutch furniture manufacturer Kembo in the 1950s and was heavily influenced by functionalism. Deceptively dainty, yet industrial, his designs were famed for their strength and durability.
