Torben Skov rocking chairs

A pair of sculptural armchairs by the under rated Danish designer Torben Skov. The design of the chair was drawn over classic Danish and American armchairs and reduced down to a single geometric expression using the most hi-tech techniques of the time. The ply seating rests inside the solid beech frame. The chairs appear to defy gravity and sit in a semi reclined position. A creative and accomplished example of the fundamental modernist principle of form following function.  The avant-garde designs of Torben Skov have largely remained under the radar outside of Denmark. However in 2007 he celebrated his 60^th birthday with a retrospective at the Kunstindustrimuseet in Copenhagen (the Danish museum of Art and design). Both chairs are in very good condition with a few age related usage marks. The paint on the middle section of the back rest of the black chair has crackled a little due to the flex in the back rest. This can been seen in one of the images. However this in no way compromises the structural integrity of the chair.
