Verner Panton was first an accomplished artist before training in architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Art. His designs were notable for their use of psychedelic colours and innovative forms in new materials. Panton’s playful aesthetic is demonstrated in this rare Pantonova sofa, consisting of five modular seating elements and a coffee table. The seats come in straight and angled pieces, allowing the user to create different moods and shapes, while the base is made from a metalwork structure that alludes to a volume but can be seen through. The coffee table has the same base with a slate composite top.
The sofa has been recently upholstered in a high quality royal blue wool and viscose blend and remains in very good condition. The cushions clip simply onto the frames. The metal work is in very good condition for its age, showing minor scuffs in places.
