A pair of beautifully formed bottle vases, by Japanese ceramicist Akiko Hirai (1970-). Hirai produces domestic ceramicware for everyday use. Basing her designs on the Japanese aesthetic of relativity, she embraces the beauty of irregularity, imperfection, spontaneity, and impurity. Her unique approach to her practice has had much attention both across England and worldwide. Leading her to be shortlisted for the LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize, 2019.
These vases are finished with a soft oat coloured glaze. The surface holds a speckled and crackled texture. In good condition.
