Italian designer Michele de Lucchi was a key designer in the Memphis Milano design collective. The group became famous for its colourful and flamboyant furniture, ceramics and lighting pieces, brought back into attention with the auction of David Bowie’s private Memphis collection. Since Memphis, Lucchi’s career has resulted in the creation of many notable works across furniture design, lighting design, product design and art.
Michele de Lucchi found worldwide recognition with the ‘First’ chair for Memphis Milano. Its extremely simple base structure is accented with an elegant curved support in which a pair of black lacquered spheres and a circular blue backrest are affixed. The black spheres act as armrests whilst the back rest is mounted on a flexible joint offering the user more comfort. This piece is in extremely good condition.
