Matteo Thun is an Italian architect and designer who famously co-founded and produced works under the Memphis Milano group. The group was headed by Ettore Sottsass who Thun met when he moved to Milan in the 1978. The pair later also co-founded Sottsass Associati producing more accessible and functional pieces for larger scale manufacturers. Thun designed ceramics, watches, lighting and furniture and developed a very distinctive and easily recognisable aesthetic, more subdued in colour pallet than other Memphis designers and more futuristic in form. This tallboy chest designed for the Italian manufacturer Bieffeplast is a very good example of Thun’s aesthetic. Minimal, the design relies on a logical composition of draws each punctuated by a dynamic handle detail that alternates in direction, with perforated draw fronts. This is a hard to find piece of furniture from a series produced in small numbers.
In good condition with all the draws working as intended. Some minor surface scuffing to the exterior.
