Elio Martinelli (1921–2004) was an Italian 20th century lighting designer. His work is representative of the midcentury modern Italian aesthetic, characterised by organic geometry that is both rationalistic and expressive. His creations have can be found in many prestigious collections.
Taking his design sensibilities from what he saw as the simplicity of nature while also playing with new materials and geometry, Martinelli captivated audiences with his combination of streamlined geometry and radiant elegance. This elevated Martinelli’s from just functional means of lighting a space to the status of alluring art objects.
This pendant consists of interlocking steel bands which join a central stem in a geometric configuration, which elegantly disperses light. Signs of age with minor scratches and marks to the inside.
