Perhaps once used as tea storage in 19th Century Japan, this Late Edo example of Tansu steps feature removable tops reveals rare marks of calligraphy and writing.
Deliberately wrought without adornment, as typical of the period, the Tansu steps have a subtle understated elegance. Beautifully patinated and mobile, the Tansu steps retain its functionality, as it can be used as a plinth or for storage.
