Ingo Maurer’s company Design M is based in Munich and has been designing intriguing lighting for over 40 years. His aesthetic is eccentric and set apart from his contemporaries. These delicate Uchiwa fan wall lights were made from bamboo, Maurer borrowing from traditional Japanese techniques of fan making to create pleasing new organic forms.
Each light has a core structure formed from thin wooden struts that have been sandwiched and laminated in paper. The golden tone emits a warm light. They are hung off a single screw or nail. In very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear – which is amazing, as normally these are found with tears or holes. One light has a minor defect to its surface. Rewired and PAT tested.
