Architect, designer and artist, Gio Ponti (Milano 1891-1979) was a conceptualist who drew lines between architecture and interior design. His signature piece, the Superleggera chair for Cassina blended a sleek sculptural aesthetic with high functionality – so light it could be balanced on one finger.
His elegant kidney mirror design was produced by Fontana Arte in 1950, made to decorate the Bristol Hotel in Merano, Italy. Most notably it is mentioned in Rivista dell’ Aredamento n°52 August 1957 p.21. A rare find in great condition, some age is shown to both glass and brass.
