On 12th September 1977 the ‘Steel City’ of Linz, Austria opened an open-air museum of metal sculptures, including work by internationally recognised names like Donald Judd, Eduardo Paolozzi and Erwin Heerich, (1922-2004). This is the model that Heerich created for his entry, the 375cm tall aluminium Untitled which, like all the work displayed in 1977, was constructed by Austrian metal-producing and processing companies.
The plaster maquette embodies all the latent potential of the final piece on a reduced scale and in monochromatic tones, whilst lacking none of the overall volumetric balance. Some minor chips and marks from handling.
