Ernesto Gismondi tripod Sintesi lamp

Artemide, Italy 1975

SOLD 07.21

A rare floor standing lamp from the Sintesi range that uses the form of a music stand turns it into a lamp.  In classic postmodern style two items that ordinarily would have little in common are designed into each other with tongue firmly in cheek. The stem is telescopic and can be positioned at various heights. It is equally at home as either a side lamp or reading light. It can even be folded up completely so you can take it on holiday… although we have absolutely no idea why you would want to do that!

Gismondi founded Artemide in 1960 which to this day produces some of the most innovative and interesting lighting that comes from Italy. The Sintesi range was well ahead of its time and although predates postmodernism bears seminal characteristics of the movement. A close friend of Ettore Sottsass, Gismondi provided the capital to get the Memphis Milano collective off the ground and into production and remains a major shareholder.

In excellent original condition.
