This pair barrel armchairs attributed to Axel Einar Hjorth are made of stained pine bound by studded iron bands. Axel Einar Hjorth was major contributor to the burgeoning Swedish design culture that was recognized internationally in the 1920s. He is hailed as having introduced Swedish decorative arts and architecture to the United States. His minimal unique style heralded the coming of the Swedish modern movement.
The cushions have been recently reupholstered in linen and are in good condition. The wooden structure is in excellent vintage condition with minor signs of age and use.
