This ancient marble mortar has a rather mysterious aura about it. Hand sculpted from a single piece of stone, with beautiful aging over time. Perhaps the most distinctive element of this piece is the chisel marks apparent on close inspection. These tiny indentations animate the mortar’s production method in a tactile and pleasing way. This piece could be used as originally intended within a kitchen environment or customised as a small sink. It also has plenty of character to stand-alone too.
As shown in the photographs, one decorative element to its exterior appears to have broken at some point years ago. This break is clearly not fresh, as it has aged and weathered considerably. The rest of the piece is in good condition with pleasing age and patina.
