The Bastiano series by Afra and Tobia Scarpa is one of the highly influential Italian design duo’s earliest furniture productions. The intention of the design was to provide “seating that was sophisticated and elegant, yet casual and comfortable.” The frame has a simple hardwood construction with the original leather seat and back pads. This compact and sculptural sofa works well in the middle of a room as so much consideration was given to the aesthetic of the back. One of the cushions shows signs of age, and some of the leather has become dry. There is minor surface damage to the frame, consistent with age.
