This modular sofa was designed by Mario Bellini in 1971 and was manufactured first by C&B and later by B&B Italia. The backs and armrests are provided with rings and carabiners, which allows the user to create the desired configuration best suited to their needs. The sectional elements of this sofa can be used freely or apart from one another as chairs. You can take the backs off and have as a day bed or use a footstool for instance. It has been beautifully reupholstered in a soft and buttery aniline leather in dark olive green. I do have a three seater set in grey Tibor wool in my other listings. This design became famous almost immediately after it was featured in the exhibition ‘Italy and The New Domestic Landscape’ held in the MOMA Museum in 1972.
It appears in the literature: Gramigna, Giuliana. Repertorio del Design Italiano 1950-2000 per L’Arredamento Domestico. Allemandi: Torino, 2003, p. 188. And Morteo, Enrico. Mario Bellini. Furniture, Machines & Objects. London: Phaidon, 2008, p. 94.
